Carros Matam, Vá de Bike é, ao mesmo tempo, a continuação e a convergência de temas de meu interesse, a saber: gravura, métodos de impressão experimentais, linguagem gráfica e mobilidade urbana. São temas que vêm permeando meu trabalho, de um jeito ou de outro, há bastante tempo.
Cars Kill, Ride a Bike is both a continuation and a convergence of themes that interest me: printmaking, experimental printing methods, graphic language and urban mobility. These are themes that have been pervading my work, in one way or another, for a long time.
Devido à irregularidade da superfície onde a imagem seria aplicada, o stencil consistiu numa série de placas de papel duplex, com dimensões de 96 x 66 cm. Sua reorganização arbitrária permite a criação de novas imagens a partir das mesmas matrizes.
Due to the irregularity of the surface on which the image would be applied, the stencil consisted of a series of duplex paper plates measuring 96 x 66 cm. Their arbitrary reorganization allows new images to be created from the same matrices.
Nesta proposta, há uma retomada da exploração das transparências, já presentes na serigrafia Caminhos, parte da exposição A Pele da Terra (2023). Também está presente o painel Cars Kill, Ride a Bike, um stencil de grandes dimensões que foi aplicado em diversos locais entre 2007 e 2018 – incluindo a intervenção urbana São Francisco: Histórias e Memórias (Coletivo Mucha Tinta, 2013) e a Galeria Ybakatu (2007).
In this proposal, there is a renewal of the exploration of transparencies, already present in the silkscreen Caminhos, part of the exhibition A Pele da Terra (2023). Also present is the Cars Kill, Ride a Bike panel, an oversized stencil that was applied in several locations between 2007 and 2018 - including the urban intervention São Francisco: Histórias e Memórias (Coletivo Mucha Tinta, 2013) and the Ybakatu Gallery (2007).

Caminhos parte dos desenhos realizados tendo como base a malha viária de Curitiba, sobrepondo-se a ela em duas versões. A primeira, gerada digitalmente, consiste no desenho de rotas planejadas por meio de plataformas digitais como Google Maps, Google My Maps, View Ranger ou Komoot. A segunda, com um elemento intuitivo e, diria, "orgânico", é formada pelos caminhos efetivamente percorridos por mim a bordo de minhas bicicletas. Em 2023 foram transformadas em uma serigrafia impressa dos dois lados de um papel vegetal tirando proveito de seu caráter translúcido, o que fez com que as cores se combinassem em alguns locais – já que os desenhos não coincidiam totalmente. Cars kill, Ride a Bike, parte desta frase, vista num broche de ativismo pela mobilidade por bicicleta e foi concebido inicialmente como uma intervenção em um espaço público. Por uma questão operacional, pensou-se que um stencil seria a melhor solução e o fato de que o espaço consistia em um muro com superfície irregular levou à opção pelo grande formato, que, assim, diminuiria eventuais imprecisões na imagem resultante.
Caminhos starts with drawings based on Curitiba's road network, superimposed on it in two versions. The first, digitally generated, consists of routes planned using digital platforms such as Google Maps, Google My Maps, View Ranger or Komoot. The second, with an intuitive and, I could say, “organic” element, is made up of the routes I have actually taken on my bicycles. In 2023, they were transformed into a silkscreen printed on both sides of tracing paper, taking advantage of its translucent nature, which meant that the colors matched in some places - since the drawings didn't completely coincide. Cars kill, Ride a Bike is based on this phrase, seen on an activist badge for bicycle mobility, and was initially conceived as an intervention in a public space. For operational reasons, it was thought that a stencil would be the best solution and the fact that the space consisted of a wall with an uneven surface led to the choice of large format, which would reduce any inaccuracies in the resulting image.
A proposta consiste em aplicar essas combinações sobre ambos os lados de um plástico transparente, com tinta também transparente, de modo que sua sobreposição forme uma terceira cor.
The proposal consists of applying these combinations to both sides of a transparent plastic, with paint that is also transparent, so that their overlap forms a third color.
Na presente versão, aproveitaram-se suas matrizes modulares, reorganizando-as de maneira arbitrária de modo que formem uma nova imagem que vagamente ligada a uma bicicleta. O formato da bicicleta representada, que já é pouco usual, contribui para o estranhamento da nova disposição, ao mesmo tempo em que alguns de seus elementos reconhecíveis, tais como rodas com raios, pedais ou manetes de freio, mantém algo conceito figurativo original. A obra resultante é parte de minhas pesquisas em arte que incluem a exploração das possibilidades relacionadas a processos pouco usuais de reprodutibilidade da imagem e à abordagem poética de minha experiência de mais de duas décadas como ciclista
In the current version, the modular matrices have been used, reorganizing them in an arbitrary way so that they form a new image that is vaguely linked to a bicycle. The shape of the bicycle represented, which is already unusual, contributes to the strangeness of the new arrangement, while some of its recognizable elements, such as spoked wheels, pedals or brake levers, retain something of the original figurative concept. The resulting work is part of my research in art, which includes exploring the possibilities related to unusual processes of image reproducibility and the poetic approach of my more than two decades of experience as a cyclist.
